Need help with letter to collection agency?
I have an account in collection and already worked out a payment plan of $25 a mth, and I have $75 more to pay. Is it too late to ask them to delete this item once I paid in full? I actually want to pay the whole thing off the end of this month. If I can still ask them, can somebody help me with writing the letter to send to them. As you can tell my grammar is not very good. Thanks in advance.
The Answer : You are dealing with a collection agent...not a grammar teacher. They won't notice the difference as their vocabulary is limited already ("Pay up not"..."I'll sue you")...mostly three work sentences...Just keep a few things in mind.In the early states you are blackmailing them. At this state you have lost all of your bargaining power. They get about 1/3 of the money the collect, so you are not going to get far by threatening them with taking $25 out of their pocket.Just keep it simple and polite. Remind them that you were in a bad financial position and that you have faithfully been paying off your debt to them. Ask for their help in repairing your credit so you can move on with your life, and PLEASE delete the entry from your credit report. Remind them that you are aware that simply showing that it was paid will not remove the negative information, only a full deletion will be of any help to you.In some cases it may be helpful to offer to refund the money they paid to post the negative information to your account, and mayby even offer to pay them for their time and trouble to delete it....ie, a bribe.Good luck to you.
