About 6 years ago i defaulted on about 8000 in credit cards? Its almost 7 years,?
Should I try to dispute them or just wait until they come off my record?
The Answer : Fresh meat!!!!Pobept K and Madre, where have you been? You must be new here. Otherwise, you would have see at least one of my many answers where I've replied to this very question! Go ahead and look..we will wait.......You are wrong. Totally, absolutely, way out-in-left-field wrong. This is the nonsense collection agents love to tell people! OK, once again lets all open our books to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (see below). Negative items can not be reported on your credit reports for more then 7 years, beginning from the date of the delinquency. Where in the law below do you see of the nonsense you are spewing, Madre???To answer your question...if they have not contacted you about this debt, and you are not in any urgent need to raise your credit score, do NOTHING! Disputing it will only bring your debt to light and remind them that they need to get moving on you. At this point they have just decided to write you off, so ignore it. After the 7 year period, if it's still on your report, then dispute it. Follow the procedures in the FCRA, and if they don't delete it you can sue them for $1000 for the violation.
